agree with all of the above. The rim ding below "one" on the reverse and the spot on the neck nail it for me.

I cannot tell ANY difference between the two. This seller should definitely be called out on this sale (or lack thereof).

If you're able to, give him negative feedback and explain what he did in your feedback. He didn't get what he wanted, hammer him so others will know he's dishonest.

The OP can do nothing about this which will not jeopardize his own ebay account. It's unfortunate, but the seller can get away with it.

I doubt an account would be suspended over a single instance but doesn't ebay frown on that or are they happy to just rack up the extra fees charging the final value for the canceled sale now

Same exact coin. Absolutely zero differences between the two, just differences due to the lighting. I would contact the seller and politely ask what is the deal with this. I would also politely explain that you will never purchase from them again and possibly point them to this thread.

I think we should all put in offers for $39.05. How funny would that be!?!

Actually, I did just that. He hasn't responded to the offer.

It does tick me off. $39 was a pretty good price for that coin. Not amazing, but pretty good.

I'm thinking if the seller did this to two different people, for the same coin, one could put ebay in a position where they'd be uncomfortable enough to act. Trouble is, though, what would they do? NARU the seller? ebay itself can't do discipline halfway. Buyers can through seller evaluation, but ebay basically only has a sledgehammer.

Just thought of something to try. Say another member messages him and says something like "Saw this coin a few weeks ago. Did they buyer not want it?" I wonder what the response would be. If you want to try this, please let me know.

This is an easy one. Leave him a negative......he can NOT retaliate as sellers are NOT allowed to leave negatives nor neutrals to buyers.

That got me thinking about assumptions I've made which may not be true. OP, did the seller go through the Resolution Center process with you, where you formally agreed to cancel the transaction? If not, you should still be able to leave him feedback.

Most, but not all of the identifiers are different to my eye, but ...
Lighting or a "cleaning" does not remove all of the evidence.
I base my vote on a single, very light scratch.

SAME.
