Alloy Mixing Error: TVã¥ Ã¶re 1950

nalaberong Pillar of the Community Canada 2805 Posts	Posted 05/22/2013 10:31 pm I found this in a mixed world bin (don't I always? :P) and found a cool alloy mixing error. I think it's similar to the wood-grain pennies we know and love, except instead of multiple narrow bands, there's just one big lighter band suddenly interrupted by one big dark band. nalaberong Pillar of the Community Canada 2805 Posts	Posted 05/26/2013 2:46 pm Well, I looked it up in Krause, but... this is a 1950 2 ore. It should be iron, but it doesn't even stick to a magnet. Numista also says it should be iron, so I guess this is an off metal strike. And it has that nice band too (no, it doesn't show up on the other side, but the combination of light and dark bands makes me believe that it's not just weird toning). Is this worth anything? Litotes Pillar of the Community Norway 510 Posts	Posted 05/26/2013 4:30 pm This coin is not supposed to be iron. 2 Ã¶re 1950 was made both in iron and bronze. This is clearly the bronze variant, which is also the most common one. In Krause, it's KM 778. The discoloration is not unusual for these coins. I have a couple like it myself.
