Hi everyone, just got this coin - haggled a bit, it didnt sel for £7.50 and I got the guy down to £4.12! I see why it didnt sell and theres no profit in there for me, butI dont see myself selling it.

What the token is:
You'll see the obverse has some things on it. Ill post a nice one (not my example!):
French-Revolution-Conder-Token
The satire:
Glory crossed out, religion cut up, france divided, throne toppled, fire in every corner, daggers in the nooks and crannies (murder everywhere) and honour trod underfoot.

Cool right? Well, for £10 more I could get an alright example, but this dug example was in my price range and this is one more thing off the wantlist (ot another ending today, fingers crossed):

Hopefully, it will clean up a bit. From what I can see, its a good strike! The reverse 'May Britain ever remain the reverse' seems to be clear.

Fun! Thanks for sharing, although I think this may be one of those coins that's definitely worth the extra £10 for the legible example.

Philadelpian, this is my thoughts, but unless I can trade for it (which I will probably never have the chance to) then I wont be able to justify it.

Also, I think I can get some detail otu of this one. Its been buried but whats visible is hardly worn and well struck. I think that some cleaning could make this quite nice (even if its breaking the golden rule). It all depends on the encrustation though - the brown seems to be caked on mud, so I think this has been underground a long time. I wont know until I get it though.

Good luck to you, but the porosity in the brown areas makes me think we're looking at the copper, rather than anything on top of it.

Well, ill report back when I receive it. Thanks for the good luck, ill probably need it!

I also got another token today - a Chunee the elephant token from Pidcocks Exhibition in the 1790s. I dont believe they were ever used as currency, so its gone to exonumia - anyone know what they were used as?

I don't know that you should have felt compelled to post your Pidcock's under exonumia. How is it different from any other British Conder token, halfpenny-sized coppers, many of which were essentially advertising pieces for merchants. Do British numismatists not consider the Pidcock's a Conder?

Conder tokens were produced specifically to circulate as coinage - they had value and did circulate widely as pennies and half pennies. The Pidcock's exhibition token is described as farthing size and I've found no reference to them being issued for circulation - it seems they were produced to sell at the exhibition.

A lot of people have listed it for sale as a conder token. I might askf or it to be moved. There is a rare variety which has the middlesex coat of arms and is inscribed Halfpenny - thats definitely a conder. Hm.

Next time I'm going to try and get a Kangaroo one - they'd only just put settlers on Australia and there were already Kangaroos for the Londoners to gawk at.

The thing has been burnished bright copper. I've tried toning it to no avail. But I cant see a way they couldve got those pictures without some sort of editing software. I cant believe it scanned without glare!

Yikes! Sorry. I guess that settles the question of whether there's dirt on it. So I guess it was a dug coin, then? Any chance of getting your money back?

I dont know. I'm going to talk to them, I cant believe their picture is kosher - I'm not sure if I would give it back...

EDIT: its quite nice but the cleaning is just...horrifying.

I think this token is excellent, I love how much info is in the obverse. I found one while browsing ebay and for £2.05 I couldn't turn it down.
