As most have stated I build my "sets" one coin at a time. The only time I purchased a set was in 2006 when I purchased a bullion set of ASE's in a dansco album. I have consistently bought the proofs from the mint and decided to add the bullion coins to my collection. The price was right and I have added each new year sense the bulk purchase.

I have no problem with a desire to purchase a complete set. Let's remember ... just because you have a complete set, doesn't mean the collecting is over. As we all know, there's ALWAYS a better coin out there. So, getting a set and then perfecting that set can be just as rewarding as starting from scratch.

I began to collect the silver quarter proof sets and started with 2012 & 2011 sets from the US Mint. I bought 2010, 2009, and 2008 on ebay for reasonable prices before I realized for a few $$$ more I can buy the silver proof sets. I wish I bought the 2012 & 2011 silver proof sets when they were available from the Mint because the price has doubled on ebay for those sets. So now I have 2000-07 & 2013 silver proof sets. I need 1999, 2008-12 to complete.

I have continued building my set piece by piece. Trying to buy the sets as cheap as possible. I am not in a hurry to build my set, so the art is in the deal.

Sure there are those who are selling complete silver proof sets, but this only satisfies an instant gratification. It is much more gratifying to piece together your coin set. To battle other bidders and getting outbid during the last 3 seconds of the auction makes you appreciate your set even more.
