Note On A Confederate $5 Bill Written In New Brunswick, CA

jcmworld Pillar of the Community United States 567 Posts	Posted 06/20/2013 6:15 pm I recently bought this Confederate States $5 note dated 1864. On the back is a note written in Canada in 1866. It was faded so here's my best reading of it (question marks follow words that are uncertain): George C. Harbinson(?) 1st Dec. 1866 Chatham NB Representing nothing on God's earth now Now naught in the south follows it below(?) as a pledge of the nation that's now dead and gone this miracle pined and shrivel'd up(?) I was wondering if anyone had any info on a connection with what seems like a note written by a Confederate sympathizer and Chatham, New Brunswick. Here are scans of the note, along with a negative of the back with the writing more legible. It is very faint. Report this Post to the Staff

I knew that a bunch of die hard Confederates went to Mexico and Cuba after 1865 but I never thought of Canada. I guess it makes sense, the British were considering aiding the Confederacy at one point, and the maritimes are a fairly easy trip from the southern US by ship. Report this Post to the Staff
