The only concern I have is questioning why a coin shop would sell these coins for far under their actual value.

I know .. if it seems to good to be true ..

I spend a lot of time at coins shops .. I have for the last 30 years .. one of my favorite places to hang out.

I also help out at two LCS 4 days a week, buying and selling coins.

In my experience if you are in a coin shop when they make a large purchase, it is possible to make really good buys.

Of course this depends on the relationship you have with the owner, and how much you are willing to buy.

I have several friends and family members that use me to purchase coins for them. They wait for me to tell them when it is a good deal.

When LCS's make a large purchase they sometimes have to turn it over quick. I know I have purchased over 25k so far this year ... for friends, family and myself.
Like this is one purchase.

Impluse-Buy-$2.50-And-$1.00-Gold

I guess to answer your question .. if you are in the right place at the right time .. and have the right relationship .. you can sometimes get good deals.

Dragging up another old post, could not decide if it was
better to start a new thread of use the old one.

Was thinking some might like to see again what they posted
about this coin.

-------------------------------------------------------
To catch up.

ANACS at the end of June offered two free submissions.
All you have to pay is return shipping and Ins. Which
was $21.00 for two coins. One of the coins I choose
was the 1854 $1.00 posted above.

The two coins I picked, I thought would benefit by being
in a slab and authenticated. Small gold are known to have
plenty of fakes. (I did not send in the 1925 D)

So if and when I sell this

1854 Gold $1.00

Having it in a ANACS slab will benefit me and any potential
buyer. I know there are good arguments that better coins
should be in a PCGS or NGC holder. But to me for the
cost of $10.50 to have this slabbed, is a big plus.

It lets a buyer know it is real, and what grade it is.
And if the buyer thinks like I do, I have less problem
breaking a coin out of a ANACS holder to put into my
Dansco, than I do for PCGS or NGC holders.

Any thoughts or opinions on sending this coin in?

Oh I should have the coin back next week, so can
post more pictures then.
