Foxwoods Man,

All I wanted to do in this thread, was say that I tried a half in a new vending machine at my local Walmart, and it did not fit in the coin slot, and I was going to stop there. It is other people that excelated it to this point, by talking about what we already discussed.

The bottom line is, halves don't circulate anymore. Whether or not $2 bills or $1 coins circulate or not is totally irrelevant. Halves don't! You don't see them anywhere unless you ask for them and even then most places do NOT have them on hand. It really is that simple. I don't care if you get a signed letter from the President of "Change" that we can believe in, it doesn't alter the fact that they DO NOT CIRCULATE!

My uncle always sends $2 bills when he gives me and my brother birthday money, they are fun to spend :)

Back when I used to CRH halves, I would usually keep a few rolls to spend here and there. I never had any issues with cashiers; every one of them either recognized a half dollar instantly, or asked what it was and didn't argue or protest when I told them. I tried to use halves in several self-checkout machines, and the coin was rejected every time without fail.

Considering they give out those pesky $1 coins for change if you ride with the MTA, I guess phasing out the dollar wouldn't be a bad idea..
