My mum saves loads of copper and silver for years and I came across these when I was looking through them for a 1983 2p 'New Pence' (Did not find one :( )

Any ideas on these, die errors perhaps? I know the 20p with the face of the Queen looks deliberately obliterated, but it has not photographed very well, it is sort of bubbled.

Die-Errors?

Two Pence, strange blob between the O and P

Die-Errors?

Squiggle down Queen's portrait.

Just impurities in the metal for the first two that have "blistered" I think. Not sure what has happened to the bottom one - Post mint damage perhaps.

Although it's not a die error-on the subject of the 2p..I once pulled a 1971 from my change with a huge Q stamped on the Queens head. Any chance this could be some Irish propaganda, or just some clown mucking about?

I've seem a lot of those propaganda ones (both sides) - but not a Q one. Someone mucking around - or creating some sort of token for an unknown use most likely.

Hi tracyaw,

Not sure you'd ever find a 1983 2p in your change..I've searched for years and never managed it.
I think it's almost impossible to find 72, 73, 74, 82, 83, 84...think they were only available in sets those years.
Saying that, I guess some of the sets have been broken up and the coinage spent...so you never know...I bet someone on here has had one in their change.

PS...I'm after the 83 2p mule...would love to find one of those.

One thing I did find out about trowling through 100s of 2ps is the vast amount of 1971 2ps, I must have pulled out about 150. I always thought old coins were melted down. 1971 most be the most common 2p coin.

I can see what appears to be another image of the Queen stamped over the Queen's portrait on the 20p coin, but then again, I see pictures in wallpaper and clouds.

The mint issued around 1.45 billion 1971 2p coins which is why they are quite common to find , I have also come across quite a few over the years and the most interesting one was recently were I got one that was drilled to reveal the shiny copper on the inside ............ I wonder who did that and if the person did it to see if they ever get that same coin one day in their change ...

Checked 250 2p's this morning, have to admit that I hadn't bothered to do this for a few years. I found a 93 with a metal flaw similar to traceyaw's, and another that was so smashed up I could barely identify it as a 2p

Here's some results...
1971(18) 75(6) no 76 77(2) 78(5) 79(5) 80(7)
81(5) 85(6) 86(4) 87(10) 88(11) 89 (5)90(4)
91(2) 92(3) 93(6) 94(13) 95(4) 96(7) 98(8) 99(8) 00(16)
01(14) 02(3) 04(11) 05(8) 06(5) 07(9) 08(7) 09(3) 10(1)scarce date? 11(8) 12(5) no 13's :(

Didn't check for different metals, may do later..off to work in a bit.
This was tallied rather quick so if my math doesn't add...apologies.

Cheers,
Steve

18 1971s lol, I am going to have to look through mine again to check for proof issues, I think 72, 73, and 74 They have no value but would be an interesting find :)
