Some people get excited and hold/report them simply because they don'see them very often, This has been a very good week for me, I got my second LP1 and my first LP3. That brings me up to 5 2009 cents I've seen so far. and those were the first ones I've seen in three years.

I've see more of the 2012/2013 cents more often than the 2009 cents.

The last box of cents I went through had 20 or so of the 2009's. At least three of each and that's about average for the five boxes I have gone through. I noticed right off the bat that the 2009's were few and far between in these boxes. Three were String boxes and two were unidentified.

I have also found a lot of uncirculated coins from the 70's and early 80's and there was even a 1955 that was in new condition. A 1965 SMS cent and a 1982 proof were also found. It seems that there are people breaking up mint sets and spending the coins at face value.

Just got a BU 2009-D LP3 in change today.

In the summer of 2009, Denver was swamped with LP3 Cents. I saved several hundred BU examples from my change, and I also picked up two boxes of them from Wells Fargo for face value.

Maybe you should hold on to some, just like people held on to and hoarded the 1909 VDB. That's why you can still find BU 1909 VDB's to this day. Your great grand children may profit from your 2009's.

Just like all 1983P & 1983D cents that I weigh:

I also weigh every 2009 I find on the possibility that someone broke open a Mint set and dumped the coins in circ.

2009 Mint and Proof Set Lincoln Cents are COPPER!

2009 pennies in circulation, now junk, but don't forget they made 20 different pennies that year. 8 were for circulation (high mintages), and mint sets had the 8 different copper versions, then the 4 proofs, pretty unique year for the penny.
