I saw this guy selling some coins
http://www.ebay.com/itm/THREEPENCE-...em4ac6901f51
and his prices are way above what they should be. I then looked at the % bidding history with this one guy that the bidders have made and it is really high
is there some way to report this as shill bidding gets on my nerves

Mate Peter Wallace is an absolute germ of Australian ebay. He could be selling body parts and ebay wouldn't touch him. You can report him all you like but it wont do any good. Have you noticed that 90% of his coins are cleaned? or that he sells coins as proofs when they are not?

Many many of us have reported him for many many different offences. ebay don't give a crap as long as theyre getting their cut.

Hogwash, I get dozens of listings removed every single day with no problem whatsoever.

The problem with reporting shill bidding is that its hard to prove and 98% of the time you're wrong. Shill bidders and loyal customers look EXACTLY the same in the bidding history to me and you.

Well, seeing that this particular bidder has bid on 30 different items, and they all happen to be from this one seller...Oh and apparently has bid on over 90% of the items this seller has sold in the past 3 months as well. HMMMM, yep, I think there is a little problem. Not real hard to prove that.

So enlighten me. Tell me how you prove its a shill and not a loyal customer.

If the reverse was true for the sellers account and that bidders account I would reasonably believe its shill bidding.

Other than that tying the accounts to the same person or matching ip addresses seems to be the only way

IP addresses are not proof of anything.

IMHO there is NO way of proving it either way.
However with the quality of the coins this seller delivers I find it hard to believe that there can be any repeat or loyal customers.
I have bought 'ONCE" from this seller and the gem uncirculated coin listed turned out to be a highly polished piece of Carp.
I am NOT the only Aussie this shyster has duped, So I find it hard to believe that there can be any "Loyal customers" unless they all reside in the insane asylum.

Nothing you can really do about it. Hopefully he'll hang himself somewhere down the road of life.

If someone took the time and presented the facts to ebay. They just simply do not have the time to investigate every single questionable thing that happens on ebay. They rely heavily on it's own community to help police it. Facts in hand about this particular seller is that the "buyer" in question has won over 50 items from this seller and left feedback for each, some in fact mention the coins have been cleaned. Yet they are still buying from this seller? Also very interesting is that of these 50 plus purchases where this one "buyer" has left positive feedback, this seller has left excatly zero for this particular "buyer."

that in itself pretty much points to the seller bidding on his own items

We all know what's happening, but any good lawyer would rip the "evidence" to shreds in court.

That's basically it serial. Just stay well clear of his listings. I can honestly say I have never ever seen a single listing of his that is not cleaned, dipped, poorly or incorrectly described or extremely overpriced.

I hear ya. We know it goes on. We know who does it.

In the 'good old days' when you saw members names on ebay you could more easily see who had a habit of always being the underbidder and never the winner. You could even send bidders a message to warn them a coin was a fake or the seller untrustworthy.

But then ebay changed things to stamp out the 'second chance' scam and anonymisation and private listings made that impossible. "It's OK" said ebay, "we have software that will spot shill bidding for you"

... and here we are. Annoying, but just 'one of those things'. And a good reason to belong to a forum like this where people can raise suspicions and discuss their experiences. And hopefully help a few more collectors avoid being ripped off.

I've been heavy on ebay since it's inception and I don't recall them ever saying that. Software to do that is pretty much impossible unless the seller is really stupid and puts his name on both accounts. You can't use IP addresses, they are too unreliable. AOL users share IP addresses as do a lot of mobile carriers, you can't use them for proof.
