Hello, me again.

This time I saw a very large greek coin in good condition. The seller is trustworthy but I'm not convinced.
What do you think: fake or genuine?

22,3 gram!

It is supposed to be a Roman provincial of the emperor Hadrian but IMO this coin is a fake. Maybe it's the picture but the coin just doesn't look right to me.

I am not so sure it isn't "Good". Not 100% either way on this. I have seen some ancient bronzes which from corrosion and harsh cleaning methods have a very 'soft' look. Either way I don't like the coin for its condition. You will usually pay through the nose for these architectural types. I would rather it with have some of the crud and dirt still on it if it is in less than F+ condition.

Thats definitely fake, in my opinion. Mushy and porous, definitely a cast copy.

Agree that it's a cast copy, but the coin it is copying seems to be this bronze from Bithynia.

The general lack of sharpness in the detail suggests at least a second generation copy.
I would be looking for evidence of the remains of a casting sprue somewhere around the edge.
I think I am looking at an example of heavy artificial patination.
Pediment and friese show only a tiny hint of detail. A student of ancient architecture would be quite dissaponted in this.

Still I wouldn't mind this piece in my 'black' collection of ancients. There would have to be at least a gentlemens' agreement between the seller or giver of this piece and myself, that it is a fake, for me to accept it, for an agreed price.

As a low quality, brass, cast fake it was probably worth less that $5.

This is a copy of a copy or a low quality "sand cast".

These are made in quantities to sell to tourists.

Yup a replica.
Nicely struck but with some weaknesses.
