I've been posting to this wonderful forum for a few weeks now, mostly to the classic coin grading forum. I'm also buying & selling coins on ebay, and including links to my grading forum posts in my ebay listings so buyers can get independent opinions. But my posts here do not contain links back to my ebay listings. That's because I'm not sure whether it is allowed or expected. I found this forum rule: "100 quality* posts and membership for 21 days are required to post links to sales on external sites such as ebay or eCrater." But I don't see many posts here about ebay listings at all. Is there another part of the forum I should use? If it's inappropriate to post this here, please let me know.

Quote:"100 quality* posts and membership for 21 days are required to post links to sales on external sites such as ebay or eCrater." You're not quite there yet so I'd remove the link if I were you. This link will take you to one of the several places that memebr ebay listings are promoted: http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/...er_sales.asp

I agree you should remove the link. You will receive an email from admin. once you reach 100 posts, then you can post links.

Hang in there, pristine! You'll be there before you know it. Time's fun when you're having flies. Really, if you're that active, it'll be a blink of an eye.

OK thanks .. so once I have 100 posts (duh -- I didn't even notice how many I'd had), does that mean I should post my ebay links to that CCF member sales page noted above or is it appropriate to post in this part of the forum? Thanks

Thanks All sales and wanted to buy are to be posted in the appropriate forum areas ANY trading in the main areas of the forum will be dealt with severely by the moderators. Don't shoot me Mate I am only a messenger, I don't make the rules I simply abide by them

Once you reach the qualifying point you can link to your ebay auctions in your profile and it will appear on every post and you'll also appear in "Member ebay and eCrater Listings" - look at the row of icons above trout1105's posts for an example - and if you leave a permanent link in your sig (without drawing attention to it too loudly), nobody's going to abuse you for it.

A follow-up question... do sales have to be conducted through ebay or can we throw a note into our posting stating that if somebody here is interested, just email for best price or something?

You *have* noted the Trade and Selling sections of the site, right? In truth, a lot of people - myself included - consider backing out of an ebay listing to sell elsewhere to be somewhat greasy from a moral standpoint.

Yes, I did. I do see the rule about no "make an offer" listings, just firm price listings... but the reality is that I have two different price lists when I sell. ebay pricing (To account for the hefty fees) and forum/craigslist pricing. Now, I don't typically run auctions on ebay or elsewhere, as I don't like the cost uncertainty of auctions, so I do almost all BIN or best offer listings... so I'm not really backing out of an ebay listing (as in canceling an auction) as much as I am just selling the coin elsewhere. Also, I would never end an auction early to sell an item elsewhere. I hate it when sellers do that. An example of my pricing tiers; I price and list coin X at $115 on ebay, paypal only. I price and list it on the PCGS forums at $105 paypal, check or money order. I price and list it on CL at $100 cash only. This is a real example. Why would I overcharge somebody here, and give ebay money they're not really entitled to since they didn't bring the buyers eyes to my item? I'm essentially charging my buyer more money just for ebay to host some pictures.

Quote:consider backing out of an ebay listing to sell elsewhere to be somewhat greasy from a moral standpoint. OK, how so? Closing out one of my active listings in my store to sell that coin outside of my store, say to a member here, is not morally reprehensible. Not sure how me choosing to sell my merchandise in a different arena is greasy. Now, if you mean backing out of an active auction where a bid has been placed, or cancelling a sale that has taken place, then yeah, THAT would be greasy.

Yes, that was my actual implication; forgive me for not being clearer. If I put something up on ebay and don't get bids for the first three days, I'm darned well going to consider alternatives. That applies to you, too, FadeToBlack - If you're doing BIN or Best Offer listings on ebay rather than actual auctions, I agree with your sentiment.

Appreciate the clarification, Dave. I'll get around to making a post over there sooner or later.

"You HAVE noticed the Trade and Selling sections ..." ..actually, I haven't quite figured it out. I found the list of ebay listings, but I don't see where you can post the listings and start a dialogue about them. Myabe it does not appear until after 100 posts?
