Quote: Do you guys have any price negotiation techniques to share? I'm always afraid I will offend the dealer. Never, ever be afraid to haggle or chew down a dealer on prices. At almost every type of show I've gone to, dealers actually expect this and raise their prices accordingly. One coin dealer I know well told me he puts about 25% more on his coins than he should due to he well knows everyone will say, can't you do better on that price? And he always says things like of couse for you, I'll drop it 20%. In some instances he tells people he will drop his price 25%. Regardless, he still gets what he wanted and the buyers think they really did great. This is basically true at coin, stamp, gun, knife, computer, camera, etc. shows. If you pay full asking price, you become a looser since most dealers don't expect that.

A bit too far for me to drive, and I am so low on money I may be standing on a street corner with a cardboard sign and a donation cup next week. I wish I could go though.

Just wondering if there was anyone from San Antonio around here. Also, since I'll be moving to Houston in a couple of weeks, does anyone know of any shows happening there anytime soon?

In my dealer days, I never put a price on a coin, unless it was a show special or a pile of coins - like "Your pick @$35.00" for a bunch of silver dollars. or maybe on a roll of Morgans. Prices tend to change too fast and too often for most dealers to price their coins. Most will have a code written on the holder that tells them some info like what they paid for it, when they bought it. Every show I've been to the dealers always used the current greysheet and went from there on pricing.
I'm in Dallas now lived in Houston many years ago but for coin shows check out the web - google is your friend just type in coin shows texas to find a list of them.

By me if I did that I'd miss about 1/3 of all coin shows in the area. For some reason not all shows are listed in those Google, yahoo, etc. suggested listings. You just have to do a lot of searching.
