Looks like a scrap of plating was struck to the coin. I've seen this before:
1988-US-Penny

Lams are found on solid planchets of copper/silver/copper-nickel coins. The zincolns are zinc core copper plated coins.

it almost looks like the piece missing from the rim as rim is smooth missing a piece

It may have come of you coin. Is the edge gray in that area? If so it is a piece off your coin.
