So I win this auction for a proof dime real cheap:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/18120256181....m1497.l2649

Before I can get a chance to pay I get this email from the seller:

"so sorry this item was stolen and no longer available for sale.
funds are being returned"

Seems to me the fellow doesn't want to honor his sale because it went for $2, with $5 shipping.

Should I report this to ebay, he hasn't tried to cancel the sale yet?

Not sure how it works but I'd go ahead and pay for if it lets you.He then can ship item or refund money and if he doesn't then file a case to get your money back and leave a nice NEG feedback.Yes! He should honer his listing. Some times the seller makes out like a bandit and sometimes they don't

I would save the emails, copy the picture with the serial number for his next auction attempt and buy something else from him for feedback he deserves later on.

Funny how those things that sell way below value get stolen the most.

Id agree sounds like he didnt like the end price. This is one of my biggest pet peeves. No one forced him to start the auction at 99 cents, if theres a minimum price youll take start the auction at that price. The 99 cent method is good for rare things, but something fairly common almost always end up going for pennies on the dollar with that type of auction

He actually cant cancel the sale on his own unless he wants to pay fees on it, you have to agree as a buyer to cancel it and let him off the hook

I would wonder looking at his feedback, and the feedback comments that he is leaving for others.

Probally a good thing you do not get the item.

I got a request to cancel email this morning, I have 2 weeks to accept or decline the cancellation. I have no idea what will happen if I decline the request, certainly don't expect to ever see the coin.

I've already reported him to ebay, I'll wait to see what they say before I do anything. I'm thinking I will decline the cancellation and wait to see what happens. This really disturbs me the more I think of it, I've had to sell things for $1 starting bid before. It's a chance you take if you do it.

Well, I left my first negative feedback today. Looking at this shysters feedback it appears there's a lot of negative that was somehow changed to positive. Look at some of the replies the crook made to his "positive" feedback.

This guy needs to be banned from selling but I doubt the bay will do a thing. Still haven't heard back from them from my reporting him earlier.

There is no word in the English to express my feeling toward crooks, thieves and those that lie for personal gain.

I have some advice for you:

Dont like the seller? Leave negative feedback and make your point with your wallet by choosing to buy from somebody else.

Policing ebay and dwelling on every little negative experience is a plague that will serve no positive purpose. Best of luck.

I am not dwelling on the negative experience. I want to help insure this doesn't happen to anybody else. If nobody reports activity such as this it will continue, If enough people complain about a seller ebay will take action, and judging from some of his feedback he has no doubt gotten some complaints.

So no, I am not going to sit back and let this happen without doing what I can to bring sunlight to these kind of practices. ebay crooks, thieves and liers need to be exposed for all of us that buy and sell on ebay.

It looks like you were high bidder at the 1 Cent opening bid until 6½ minutes before the auction ended.

I think if this seller had a shill account, he would have less items stolen

So yesterday I get an email from ebay saying the seller has shipped the item, after I have not paid for it and left negative feedback.

Maybe ebay put a little fear in him, who knows? I will believe it when I have the coin in my hot little hand, at what time I will happily pay the man.

This is most bizzare!

Now there is a twist I've never seen before. Must be Guido from ebay leaned on him.
