If anyone needs a cheap Nikon M5 objective for this set-up, I found this one.

Thank you for posting this! I bought it. I also want to thank everyone involved in this tread as I am setting up my T1i the same way. I have been following it from the beginning and look forward to replacing my G12 which is just OK for coin pics.

Just something to keep in mind...I was using 2 jansjo's and seemed to be fighting with the lighting all the time so I added 2 more....couldn't be happier! Cuts lighting adjustment in half at least. I use a simple diffuser that I made and my pictures have never been better.

Also, you might want to get a AC adaptor as the battery does not last long...

I have 3 Jansjo's I currently use and have ordered the AC adapter. The only thing I am missing is the 75 mm lens and the rest of the parts to arrive. I figure it will be the first of the year by the time I get it all together. Again thanks for this great thread!

That is a good price. I saw that yesterday just after I won an auction for a new one.

Those are very nice. Seems the setup is working well. Other than the long wait for the components, did you have any issues with the equipment, putting it together, operation, etc?

The set up is working great...I love it!! Still need some practise with lighting but I'm sure that will come over time.

I lucked out with that copy stand, its very sturdy and shots a near perfect 100% vertical.

As far as the camera, lens and adaptors...went together in minutes.

The software that came with the Canon XS is very user friendly...other than focusing, there is no need to touch the camera...pretty much everything is done via computer.

The one thing people have to realize with this or any set up, it takes time for high quality photos!! Better equipment will make things faster, but its not magic. Lighting is what takes up probably 90% of the time involved in a picture...what works for one coin will not necessarily work for the next...BU pennies are the worst, still haven't mastered that yet lol

Any regrets?.....Not one! Thank you Ray and Dave, I couldn't be happier!!

Bellows would be a nice addition to make it easier and faster to go from different size coins instead of the extensions

Rmc, you do yourself far more credit than any of us. We provided basic knowledge, and you ran with it. And your willingness to share the process has resulted in a thread which I'm going to link a hundred times in the future, for those who follow you down this path.

You've done Coin Community a valuable service which will survive into the future. Thank you.

rmc...I agree with SD 100%! You started this thread, took a chance on our advice, made the investment in both dollars and time, and are now seeing the results of the effort. I'm hoping to see more of your work published on this thread (please?), any observations you make along the way, and any improvements you make to the setup. It has already inspired others to follow along the same path, and I hope to see their work (please?) on this thread as well! I've linked this thread on several other coin forums and it has garnered interest both from the perspective of folks building a similar setup as well as being made aware of Coin Community in general and this excellent Coin Photography sub-forum.

This thread already has over five thousand reads, if that's any indication.
