WOW thanks guys . I'm just thankful for CCF and all the great people that are willing to help. I was beginning to think that maybe people were getting sick of this thread and seeing my pictures but I would be more than happy to keep going with my progress. This is proof that you can take someone with little to no experience with cameras/photography and in no time have them producing great images. Quote: how large are the original images? Assuming these have been scaled down. The original images are 4400 x 2200 (4 MB). I than sent them to Photobucket and from there straight to here. Other than cropping, I did no other editing to the photos.

I really like the pairing approach from an aesthetic perspective, but it forces the images a bit small for fully-confident grading. So, in situations where you're looking for a grade, separate them and present each at around 800px in diameter. Your images will be plenty sharp enough at that size (Ray prefers to mathematically downsize to 25% of original, to retain yet more sharpness by optimizing the postprocessing program's capabilities - you achieve a more accurate result by downsizing in even steps like that. Me, I'm like, "I'm wielding a 4" fire hose, who cares if a couple glasses of water slip over the side?" ).

Writing to acknowledge the tremendous knowledge shared and gained in this incredible thread. This entire discussion IMHO clearly demonstrates the CCF mission and commitment towards supporting collector education. In my few years here at the CCF ... this thread stands out as a prime example of that mission ... and having read it twice now has inspired me to take the same steps as rmc to improve my coin photography. Many Thanks to rmc for starting the discussion and sharing the journey along the way. Special Thanks as well to our resident photography experts SsuperDdave and rmpsrpms for your contributions ... both of you gentleman should know that being a mentor and giving back represents the highest ideals of sharing knowledge ... paying it forward as you both did so well in this thread. I could have not closed with a better comment already offered by SsuperDdave: Quote: You've done Coin Community a valuable service which will survive into the future Tremendous knowledge gain ... I'm in search of the pieces and parts to do the same. David

Here looks to be a pretty good copy stand similar to the one I bought... http://www.ebay.com/itm/29104867070....m1423.l2649You would also need to purchase a Macro Focusing Slide Rail like this one... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fotomate-25...em565fa16b78I have this same slide rail mounted on my copy stand and it works great! I LOVE my stand and its a must have IMO....solid base and perfect vertical shots = top quality photos. This set up only uses a very small area on my desk (16" x 18") and NO tripod legs to get in the way.
