For a long time I sold them with setups for $275 but lately I've been charging $245. You can sometimes get them for <$200 but they seem to be very popular lately. $275 is probably OK as an upper bound.

Thanks, Ray for the information. I'd like to get the lens for around $200, but like you say, they seem to be very popular lately. We shall see.

Hi Guys!
I have been chipping away at the list on page #1 of this great thread.
Canon XS camera, body only: $175 EOS-M42 Adapter: $5 M42 focusing helicoid, 17-31mm: $30 M42 extensions, 2 sets 7/14/28mm: $15 M42-M39 adapter: $3 M42-RMS Adapter: $15 Nikon 75mm EL-Nikkor Lens: $40 Nikon M5 or Plan4 objective: $30 Tripod: $30 IKEA Jansjo LED lights, two: $20
I just want to confirm that with this equipment, I will be able to zoom in on mint marks and other small errors on coins as small as a penny? I am mostly into errors (RMPS, doubling, clashes, and other errors) and want to make sure I will be able to get good quality pics or these kinds of errors with this set up before I get too much further into this.
Not only am I a newbie at coin collecting, I am even newer at photography. I appreciate your help and guidance.
Thanks!

Agrippa...yes, this setup is capable of zooming in to show the full date and MM of a Cent. This level of zoom is achieved with the Nikon M5 or Plan4 objective. You will need to focus stack to get maximum quality though. You can crop to show only the MM. Here is the overall quality you'll get: And here's what you'd get with cropping:

WOW! That's incredible clarity! Thank you so much for the info and guidance. I'm sure I'll be back here as soon as I get all of the parts on the list.

You should know that lighting the coin with objectives is difficult. Many folks have given up in frustration! But you CAN get decent lighting in using "at the lens diffuser" concept. The shots above were using just the normal 2x Jansjo technique, but you can get even better lighting with a bit of effort. I may do some shooting with the M5 to show folks what to do so they don't give up.
Another thing about higher magnification that freaks people out is the short working distance. But this is just the nature of the physics involved. If you want to do high magnification, you need to accept short working distance (less than 1cm) and not worry about it.

Okay, I want to do this. I've posted before about my Sony and now I have a Nikon D300 too, but I'm thinking it would be easier (better) to just go for the Canon XS body and the rest of the list Agrippa posted because of the tethering factor. Does this sound correct or would it be best to stick with one of the two I have? I like the thought of having the Canon set up solely for coin shots and not having to worry about setting up one of the others after using it for other photography.

That's exactly what I do with my setup.

I have never tried pushing the M5 up to 10x magnification, but here's the (pleasantly-surprising) result:

Ok, just for those of you out there who are afraid to jump in on this.... I went from having nothing, to having all of the items on the list for $208 not counting shipping! $221 with shipping on all of the items. The only thing I don't have yet is the copy stand. As you can see, the whole set up will be WAY under $400. I got all of the items on ebay. You have to be patient and shop around, but it can be done. Now the only thing left to do is figure out how to use it all! Hahahaha

I now have most of the puzzle pieces as my camera body just arrived in the mail today ($119 from Henry's in Canada) and my Jansjos came the other day. I also have the El-Nikkor lens, so I just have to search ebay for the rest. I haven't done anything with the camera yet and I didn't see a disk, so I'm hoping the software can be found online?

Supposedly you can download from Canon website. You somehow have to register your camera serial number or similar process in order to get a full function version.
