That is optic law, no more.
No matter how good looking shots.
Your magnification range is 36/15 = 2,4
I gave for 4.
Yes, for less scale range it could be possible to use only one fix extension and one helicoid

Well I'm not sure what any of that means but for most of us, I think a lot will agree, these pictures are as good as we need for what we are doing. I'm more than pleased with the quality that I'm getting! Optic law or not, the pictures I am getting from this setup are what I was striving for when I first asked for help. Most of us looking for help are not photographer's....we want the easiest setup without the confusion. I think I found it IMO

Yeah I'd be more than happy to get that quality rmc, great photos those. Were those the correct extension tubes that I posted earlier? :P Because I'd rather buy them from UK rather than wait 4 weeks for the sake of a tiny amount of money.

TobyJ...those extensions should work fine. I'd recommend buying both sets so you have enough extension to get beyond 1:1 magnification with the 75mm lens.

Your magnification range is 36/15 = 2,4

justwalking...this calculation is confusing. Are you calculating for a 36mm coin on a 15mm sensor? If so, then the magnification is 15/36 = 0.42. Or are you calculating for a full frame sensor with 36mm width, shooting a 15mm coin? If so, you need to use the 24mm vertical height, not 36mm horizontal, if you want the coin to fit on the sensor. In this case the required magnification would be 24/15 = 1.6. Or are you referring to a ratio of magnifications for coins from 15mm up to 36mm? Please explain.

I'm not collector, so I don't know for sure how much can be difference in the world of coins. I gave ratio 4:1
You are right that coin can be fit only on vertical size of sensor.
Then 15/11=1.36 (max needed magnification) and 15/44=0.34 (min)
1.36/0.34=4 (anyway)
At least here in Russia is possible to find from 13 to 45 mm domestic coins

Thank you rmpsrpms, I've bought both sets.

So far, I've bought Canon EOS 450D / Rebel XSi 12.2MP Digital SLR Camera - Black (Body Only) for £100
Nikon EL-Nikkor 75mm f4 Enlarger lens £55
M39-M42 39mm-42mm Lens Mount Adapter Converter Filter Ring 39x0.75-42x1 39-42 mm £3.00
Adjustable M42 Lens to Canon EOS Rebel Kiss EF EFS mount adapter ring £10
Sets of Extension Tubes £30

So far £198.00, not bad really :D

But I need Helicoid, just to confirm is this the correct one? The final piece in the puzzle.

Hello, a lot of the stuff has come. Good job the M39-42 adapter was only £3! It doesn't fit the El Nikkor Lens.

I bought this one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/272293338...RK:MEBIDX:IT

Did I buy the wrong one? Its the same size as The Nikon Lens but it just doesn't screw in, please advise? Its actually a bit too big for the thread. I've bought the wrong one obviously?

Many thanks in advance.

Oops! Yep, M42-M39, like this one:

http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro...+M39+adapter

Nice to have ones with notches so they can be removed if they get too tight on the lens.

Thanks rmpsrpms,

Had a little trouble with the EOS M42 adapter fitting onto the Helicoid for about an hour, before I realised that the middle gold insert could be screwed out, and then it had to be mounted to the helicoid and then screwed tight on.

So thats sorted now, just waiting on this elusive M42-39 adapter to arrive and I will get experimenting. I will be sure to post some photos when I have some good ones :D
