Okay I see how the fields totally looked dimpled in... the tiny halo I'm not seeing yet.... and would love to know any other indicators that you may have... if you don't want to post on here out in the open... would you be willing to send me a PM...?

I'll see what I can find. Keep in mind this particular coin has re-toned over time. Many copper whizzed coins exhibit pitting and deformation of high points. Usually more evident to the right of the points since most tools will rotate clockwise. I find silver exhibits more of an altered surface. Finally in my opinion a "proper" whizzing (if you can call it that) will not exhibit surface hairlines to the naked eye.

AgCoinAu....I don't have other 'secret' indicators.

I was basically alluding to a 'gut' reaction from my ebay experiences.

I'm always leary of ebay sellers who post high grade similar looking coins and then state "I know nothing of coins" as it kind of gives them an 'out' for selling problem coins.

double , as you know a seller has no real out when they sell anything..Ebay holds the seller accountable for everything or almost... To me this is just their way of trying to pass the buck so to speak....Someone should ask this seller ..If the coin turns out to be cleaned or whizzed will you accept refund?
There are a few others also who doctor up the coins, usually the large cents that are as shiny as can be but are still dark brown , and this seller feedback is private, and sales show his large cents at above trend many many times even for commons....

artdio...I respectively disagree with you and say that the sellers do use certain info to provide them with an 'out'.

True, ebay does provide an excellent guarantee for the buyers but you neglect to note that most buyers of problem or counterfeit coins on ebay will never figure out their coin is a problem coin until it is much too late to do anything.

My reasoning for this is an educated buyer can spot such a coin from the seller's picture and therefore won't even bid.

The uninformed buyer will purchase the coin and think everything is OK.

Now there are exceptions to this and I'm sure sometimes when a buyer receives the coin he or she will suspect something is wrong with the coin and return it for a refund but in most cases, this does not happen.

How did polishing a coin come to be called 'whizzing' it?

A whizzed coin is not always polished. I have a large vicky cent that cost a lot,... and looked ยจ`beautiful`..

Got it graded in the 90s and it came back tagged whizzed.

It was probably air blasted with baking soda or some soft powder.
I had no idea and thought that maybe it was only a soft strike. Takes a trained eye and someone who knows what to look for....

The whizz refers to the sound of the high speed wheel whizzing around---could be a dremel, or a polishing wheel attachment on a drill .

Signs of whizzing involves the movement of metal---therefor damage---especially soft silver coins----look for rounding of edges.

ebay is a great place to buy "problem' coins....why intelligent collectors think they are going to find a bargain, or diamond in the rough, is beyond me......Better off to frequent garage sales.

When I first started buying on ebay, I bought a whizzed GVI half off a bad picture. I was annoyed until the price of bullion went up, and now I'm ahead.
