While on vacation this week in east TN I made a purchase of this coin/medal set at an antique shop:

Close-ups of the silver proof medal (.999) and larger bronze medals:

This ANA 86th Anniversary Convention set was sort of buried under some nasty looking Peace dollars in a display case. I was curious about it, as I had never seen one before. I could see part of the silver coin and the price tag of $29.00. I had already made my mind up that I was going to buy it because I really liked the design of the medals, but I did a quick search on ebay anyway. I found that one sold for $78.00 recently, as well as other sets going for between $75 and $100. These medals must be very thick as they are nearly the same thickness as the white inner acrylic core. I did some further investigating and found that the silver medal is one full ounce of pure (.999) silver. I think I did pretty good on this one. I'll probably look into buying other sets as well.

Did you visit "Dixie Stampede" while there?

No, Rick, we didn't visit that attraction. To tell you the truth, we were a little overwhelmed with the place, including Gatlinburg. There was so much to do and see. We're definitely going back in a couple of years to see some stuff that we missed, including the Dixie Stampede. I think my daughter would really like it.

I just got back from Gatlinburg a couple weeks ago. I love it up there and we try to go every other year. Wish I had visited that antique shop before you. That is a nice set at a fabulous price.
