Every bank I have been in lately just gives me dirty looks if I mention them. I never have seen any in circulation. And as time goes on, they will slowly be forgot.

The tellers at my bank always have them in their trays and are happy to give them to me. I have never gotten one as change, but cashiers always know what they are when I hand them over.

Sounds like from most of the answers that I should try asking my bank and if that fails my only other option is to buy them straight from the mint itself. It's really a shame that these coins aren't be circulated anymore, they really are beautiful.

The banks won't have the newer Pres dollars, just the ones that were circulated before the cutoff. You have to buy them from the mint or other collectors/dealers. I'm thinking that all the earlier posters are getting pre-2012 coins from the bank. I think it would be easier to find a 1909-S VDB cent in change than a 2013 dollar coin.

I believe that interest will start to grow with these coins in 2015, starting when the Ike dollar comes out. I'm just guessing, the Kennedy and Nixon will be popular, and the Reagan will probably sell out.

For those who are finding ATB Quarters: you are soooo lucky. I haven't seen any 2012 or 2013 quarters here in the Detroit area (yet). I noted that the circulation problem began with the territory releases and have continued. Perhaps when the Michigan quarter comes out in 2018 they might make some available in the state; but who knows?

Then someone is spending their mint rolls, because these haven't been released for circulation since 2011.

I can always get Presidential dollars at the bank (2011 and earlier), but I don't think I have ever gotten one in change. But I do spend a lot of them. Many of the coins from the bank are AU-Unc, even older dates which means they are not circulating. That's too bad.

atticguy, I recently found a McHenry ATB Quarter in my change the other day and it was just like the other circulated ATBs I've come across- scratched up and that one even had a ding in it, I couldn't believe how fast these coins get mangled. Its way easier to find a BU RD 1970's Lincoln in my change than a good ATB. You're not missing out on finding an ATB.

I find that it is less fun, less satisfying collecting coins that aren't issued for circulation, namely these dollar coins. There are billions of these things in mint state condition in government vaults. How are these ever gonna be worth anything in the future?

He knows I collect coins but he wouldn't give me that coin, as he said it had his portrait on it! His name... James Buchanan!
I would keep it, too.

They do not circulate because our leaders are incompetent and will not eliminate the one dollar note. Remove it and the dollar coins will circulate widely

It's funny that Americans haven't seen these circulating. I was in the US for like 8 hours and got two of them. Washington and Pierce
