Quote:Here is a short piece I posted on one Chinese counterfeit factories Two Cent Pieces. Thanks for the link to your article Penny Guy. I noticed that, in addition to your 12 points, the ends of the "In God We Trust" banner are blunt when compared to the real coin and the letters in "CENTS" are not aligned in an even arc. I've only recently taken an interest in two-cent pieces but I really like them. It's a simple but quite elegant design.

I've reported this guy to ebay, but the auctions remain so far, I also sent them links to the photo of the desk to prove he is full of BS. Hopefully they nail him before too many people get burned by him. pennyguy, love the info on the Chinese fakes, like I said I wish I had bought a set of them before they were gone just as a reference, they are pretty well made from what I've seen.

Thanks guys. There are quite a few differences when you take a good long look. The sets that I have shouldn't fool anyone. Note I said "shouldn't" LOL There is always someone that thinks they are the only one getting a deal.

Good news from ebay, they replied to me and said they agreed it was a bogus sale, and administratively pulled the auctions after they ended, saving some bidders from loosing a bunch of money. Way to go ebay! P.S. 1872 2¢ pieces are a lot tougher in business strikes than proofs as well, some of the circulated MS coins are actually impaired and circulated proofs, the true business strike (as opposed to proof) are much, much rarer.

@westcoin.... Take a look at the one I posted on page 1 and give me your opinion as to it being a business strike instead of a worn proof. One thing of note is that the "7" is a weak strike. PG

paleoguy45, I can't really tell from the photos you posted for sure. Is there a tiny die chip under the G of IGWT? Is the N of In recut? Any die cracks on the reverse (even tiny ones) you can find?

I believe this is a business strike and not a circulated proof, quite a nice piece too! There seem to be many die cracks on the reverse, I just can't make out if there is recutting on the lower right of the N in IGWT, but it looks like it. also can't tell if there is a small triangular die chip under the G in God. But I'd say it's a business strike from what I can tell.
PennyGuy is pretty knowledgeable as well maybe he can chime in on this one too.

to the CCF This "1872" looks to be a poorly executed counterfeit. Here's a cropped pic of it. Compare the large date to that on a genuine coin.
