Okay. Ya ya their human, but c'mon ! This is ridiculous! But I just thought of a possibility. There is SLIM TO NO way this guy can have THREE mislabeled NGC holders Of the Same Coin. So maybe he makes them himself, and copies the exact ID # from the website. So when you enter it on NGC website, it seems authentic.

Yeah...it makes you wonder, but I verified the second "small date" linked here against the NGC site. As you can see, the toning spots and streaks indicate a match.

Quote: So they re-slab it as large date. Do they pay for their mistake for the price difference? Read the guarantee, attributions are not guaranteed (Unless they have changed recently) Quote: i can send it back to seller, but he wanna charge me 15% restocking fee, plus I must pay for shipping Report it to ebay as "Significantly not as described". You should get your full payment and shipping reimbursed, but possibly not the return shipping. Quote: And what are the odds of one seller having two coins misattributed by NGC? That's really hard to wrap my brain around. If they were from the same submission, probably fairly good. Send in say half a dozen large dates and identify them as small dates on the invoice there is a pretty fair chance they will get listed in the computer as small dates. How many times have I said you can't trust attributions from the TPG's, you HAVE to verify them yourself.

I sent in my very first coin to PCGS last year. It was a very rare VAM. I asked for it to be put into a PCGS secure holder. They charged me for the secure holder but sent it to me in the regular holder. I had to drive all the way to Chicago to get it fixed because I was worried if I sent it in the mail that I would not get my coin back at all or would get the wrong coin back. I simply don't trust them. I was told if I drove over 600 miles to the coin show I could get it fixed there the day I arrived. I had to wait until the next day so I had to get a Hotel room and stay there to get my coin back the next day. They said it was a mechanical issue and they would not reimburse me for my troubles. All I asked for was a free coin grading. You would think they could have at least done this. I will never use their service again. I can grade better than the graders and I know I can VAM better than them. I don't even know if I would trust either of the other companies with my coins. I have heard of NGC putting the wrong VAM designation on so many peoples coins it is hard to believe. If they can't tell the difference in Varieties they should not be labeling them. I would demand as much as you can get but I can almost guarantee they will tell you it was a mechanical error and they will do nothing more than reslab the coin with the correct attribution.

I simply don't trust any of the grading companies. Save your money and buy only raw coins. Grade and Attribute the coins yourself before buying. Don't let yourself get messed up. I am 100% certain you could find a nicer raw small date on ebay for less if you look hard enough and you won't have to pay for the plastic. I like to look at lots and I find my best coins in them. If they wanted to fix these issues they would have an atributer look at every coin that is slabbed and labeled before it is shipped back to the customer. It would only take 30 seconds for each coin at the most. If they can't do that then they are too big for their own good.

The TPGs should have an expert eye when it comes to US varieties, especially popular coins like the small date. I also wouldn't be surprised if people game the system, send a bunch of LD 70-S LMCs as "small date" and see if they score. 7TF, regarding your ebay link--did you see any that were definite SDs in that lot? What caught my attention was... "I am not a coin expert at all. All he would tell me is there is both small and large from the roll. He offered to buy them, but would not point out which was which without money."Well, that's rather convenient--hope people bid up the lot on the vague promise there's a small date in there--somewhere!

I see one or 2 that have a possibility. Honestly, I just grabbed the first auction I could find that stated small date and was a lot. I don't collect these and don't see the rarity in them that others do. I would much rather own a piece of silver.

As for guys playing the system it probably does happen but it shouldn't if they actually have an attributer look at them. But, I have to wonder if it is not an inside job with it happening so often and with it happening at all of the TPGs.

KEEP IT!! Sell it on ebay as a slabbing error... Will likely bring a premium. Ill trade 2 small dates for it!

I removed the link to the lot on ebay that claims to have 1970-s small dates because it most likely does not. Like I said I don't collect these little pieces of copper and would rather have a nice BU silver dollar in my hand over any Memorial penny (unless it was a huge error like, double struck with 2 heads, something magnificant, etc..). I sure hope the guys that are spending $50 to $100 on this variety at least have a nice stash of gold and silver coins too am make sure you know what variety they are. Do you know what VAM all of your Morgans & Peace dollars are? Kris

Oh brother...is that number 3? It matches the NGC lookup too--and it's obviously a LD.
