I suspect it's supposed to be a silver penny of Eric Bloodaxe--last Viking king of Jorvik (York)

Here's one at the British Museum:

Doesn't the ebay coin a look a bit clunky to be a hammered silver penny--do the details look right?

I was excited and surprised to find a penny of Eric (Bloodaxe) Haraldsson up for auction today on Sixbid since this type is so rarely offered (only about 20+ known) and early Scandinavian coinage interests me.

Viking-Coin

Suspicion got me searching for other examples and, lucky me, I found one. It was even more surprising that the coin being auctioned looked to be a die match with a Trevor Ashmore reproduction/forgery. The auction house was contacted and minutes later the lot was no longer up on Sixbid. Wanted to share this with anyone interested in ancient English coinage because Ashmore copies are just good enough to be dangerous. They do occasionally sell on ebay and there is a market for Trevor Ashmore reproductions.
