I'm not familiar with the "strong" designation on the slab.
What does that mean?

Some of the 7/8TF dies showed the underlying, earlier 7 tailfeather reverse more strongly than others - 4 or more original tailfeathers showed. These get the "Strong" designation. The ones which showed fewer tailfeathers were designated "Weak." This naming convention predates VAMming, which renders the designation kind of irrelevant.

CxG, I see enough to convince me of VAM-39, and a pretty darn good 62.

Yeah, I think PCGS was tough on this one to call it 62. It looks like mostly luster grazes on the obverse from where I'm sitting. Nice coin for 62 money though!

Thanks. Paid 170 for it. Too much ya think? I tried the seller at 150ish, but he wasn't budging.

I think you have a 39A but I can't confirm it from the photos. You can confirm it by looking at the plate photos on the page I linked to. If you can find all of those die markers then you have the 39A. You will need a jewelers loop. If you have any questions about where to look for them just ask.

You should be able to find similar 1878 VAM 39A coins that have sold on ebay. I don't think you would lose money if you had to resell it on ebay.
