I have never seen a surface like the Indian Head nickel before (Posted 01/01/2014 4:45 pm). Does anyone know how such a surface happened?

The 'craters of the Moon' nickel? I suspect it was acid.

It is an 1868 2 cent coin. I'm thinking it has seen better days.
I am surprised they didn't put down AU details. With the fact, that you can see almost all of the crossbars on the shield with little wear.

By golly, your right! That is a Two Cent Piece; thanks for correcting me. Honestly, I didn't read the title, and I thought it was a nickel!

Coins like that make me want to sell the half of a Buffalo nickel I found metal detecting. Maybe I could pass it off as an extremely rare 2 1/2 cent piece.

Look at the rims--or lack thereof. The coin has been hammered to melt value--or whatever it weighs now!
