Hehe! We got a nice amount of some of the worse coins ever! My favorite one as of now is this one that fortcollins posted. It appears to be an 1877, but there is no way I would spend that money on that coin! The price needs to drop by at least 50%.

Paul, The link you gave is for an 1894 cent. The seller's description is " 1894 Indian Head cent 1C Penny (Choice BU Condition) Excellent Eye Appeal!" He says it would grade MS62, I doubt that. I think it would grade no more than AU58 and I wonder whether the spots and rim knocks would merit a "Details". In any case, MS62 is way below Choice BU. I regard BU as MS63 and choice BU as MS64. |

No, its the right link. The original listing has ended and been relisted. You need to click on the "show original listing" button. Regarding the mutilated 1877 cent, I suppose it all comes down to what percentage of the price of a non-mutilated coin in the same condition, you would pay.
I've paid 10%-15% for badly damaged common coins and 35% for badly damaged rare coins in British and Scottish series, before.

Pertinax: this "feature" drives me to drink... I think it's still in testing as I've seen it w/o the link. Which makes ebay useless for research/reference. I get it for uncertified bullion or Xbox systems- they really are interchangeable. Here's one I found in the error category (it's not an error, just Post Strike Damage from getting smacked with a hammer, with a coin laying on top). 142933142201Oh, get it before it's gone!  Errers and Varietys.

Oh joy. Here's an obviously plated Lincoln Cent being palmed off for $250 as a 1969-D Lincoln Cent on a Dime Planchet. The seller helpfully notes that "This is only the second one I have ever saw !" Not surprisingly most of the other items listed for sale by this expert numismatist are "Dukes of Hazzard" collectibles. |
