I don't think I have ever see a Columbian half that worn. That coin circulated for a long time.

I just sent this to the 1927 "S" nickel seller. Your coin is not from the San Francisco Mint. It doesn't have a mint mark under the word FIVE CENTS on the reverse, so it's from the Philadelphia mint.

Let me ask a few questions about the Columbian Half Dollar above.  I know that some coins, in the worst possible naturally worn condition, can command a higher price than a coin that's a single point higher on the Sheldon Numismatic Scale. I don't have any "Lowball" graded coins in my collection so I'm in the dark as to what to look for. Are Lowball grades popular for coins like this?
Would this coin grade PO1, FR2, AG3 or G4?
Is this strictly a "melt" item in this condition?
Is it possible to buy this coin, have it graded, and try to sell it as a lowball coin, and make a profit?
Does anyone on CCF collect Lowball grades? The PCGS Population Report for the Columbian Half is P1-37, FR2-111, AG3-151 and G4-63. I think that's for both the 1892 and 1893. I think the coin would likely get a Details grade, rather than a straight low grade for even wear.  |

On the Columbian Half, am I the only one who finds Columbus' vacant eye socket on this coin just a little bit creepy?
