Excellent purchase! 4 cents was fair for both parties. I hope you find some nice coins!

I think you paid a fair price. 4 cents per LWC is what I pay at my local coin shop.

Well it is a gamble that could pay off big for you. Circulated 30s to 50s Wheat Cents tend to retail at $0.03 a piece but if there are some uncirculated coins in there you made of well. BE sure to check the 1917-P, 1927-P, and 1936-P for double dies. The latter is the most obvious one of the three.

As someone else mentioned, RPMs and OMMs are a real possibility; especially as these were put away before the mass interest in such coins. IF that 09 tube is full, you can make your money back just by selling that roll.

I think you did great! I can think of a whole lot worse way to spend 4 cents per penny. It's many hundreds of dollars of fun just sifting through them! Please post some pics of what you find!

Keep the $$$ in the family.
A Lincoln Cent collector, for four cents each, has the opportunity to examine
and to learn about these coins. Fun factor is important.
Over the years I have found Lincolns in XF to AU.
What a great cold weather project.

I've started to look through my new hoard of LWC's. I'm starting with the oldest and working my way forward. The stats so far are as follows:

1. 1909 - 1920 have been reviewed (first pass)
2. Total number of coins looked at so far is 465 out of 10,000.
3. AG & G Detail = 331
4. VG Detail = 64
5. Fine Detail = 67
6. Very Fine = 2
7. Extremely Fine = 1

These Pictures are 2 great surprises. More pictures will come later along with updates to the stats.

Please let me know what grade you think these two are. The second is in rough shape, but the first one looks pretty good.

Here is a 1918 LWC with an interesting defect. Any opinions on what caused this?

What could cause that..not being a smarty pants...but just about anything. Is just rim damage from circulation

Ok, Ok, I guess I asked the wrong question. I was wanting to know whether the damage was done by the mint or while in circulation.

Thanks,
Brian

Nice find on the two '09s!

As for the damaged '18... I'd go with circulation damage. If I had to guess, somebody used that cent to pry something up or as a screwdriver. I'm guilty of that myself on a few occasions.
