Probably a good AU - look at all the filleting around details/devices. You're right, those dies were long past their expiration date.

I think it will grade MS-63 RB. I agree the luster is of a MS coin and much more than vast majority of AU coins that I have seen. Also, it appears to have a good amount of it's original red which is something that I haven't seen in that quantity on circulated copper. Typically the ones I see, aside from obviously cleaned and/or recolored, are total brown with a few upper AU that have some original red around the protected areas. The reverse looks like it was struck from a worn die.

Wow, those dies are kaput!.. Too much wear around the ear, beard, and cheek, for MS in my opinion.

Struck on a worn die but has also seen some very light handling, evident in the fields and high points. No serious wear. AU-58

I believe any apparent wear is from mishandling over it's life (based on these pics). The toning appears to match on the obverse high points and fields. If the luster is there and relatively unbroken, I think this coin could grade MS-62 with any of the major TPGs. It's pretty unusual to see a late die state on a 1914P (both dies on top of that)!
The pic size and cropping is good but you need to cut back on your lighting a little. The pics are over-exposed which makes it difficult to grade.

Thanks guys. Yes, this coin has very solid Cartwheel luster, stronger on the obverse. There is also luster apparent on the toned areas. Here is one of the photos from the seller, which shows the extent of the luster well; but it also makes the coin look much lighter in tone than it does in hand. I know I need to work on my photography...this is a relatively new camera. I seem to do better with silver than with copper. Hopefully I will improve in the future.
