edweather Pillar of the Community United States 7375 Posts	Posted 01/17/2014 2:00 pm Was going through a couple of well circulated low grade rolls of coins the other day and after only 20 minutes or so my hands were really dirty. The coins are filthy! Anything wrong with a little soap and water on these? Any suggestions for removing the dirt? They are low value, low grade coins and IMO there is no reason they need to be THIS dirty. thanks. ed Report this Post to the Staff

ASLAN TVorlon Pillar of the Community United States 1234 Posts	Posted 01/17/2014 2:13 pm I'll take some pics of my fingers the next time I do $100 in nickels... it's all dirty money. I'm 99.99% against cleaning of any sort for coins, I use an old dish sponge and soap on my fingers after I get them dirty, I tried the shop soap that is abrasive on my fingers but then figured a sponge would be better. Tone or Tarnish? Filth or Patina? Maybe get some light weight gloves, they will get dirty then wash them and the filth from the coins will be on the gloves and not the coins or your fingers. Not only my finger tips turn black but the cloth I use to protect the table top becomes stained black. Dirty dirty money. I'll take all I can get!
