I agree that you should contact the seller about this. Yes you may have come out ahead but unless your planning on selling them, you really don't gain anything. You received something you didn't want, didn't get what you wanted, didn't get what you paid for, so why not at least contact them about it all. Look at it this way. What if you made that mistake? Would you just say oh well to bad? And what if the person at that company gets into trouble for making that mistake? What if he or she looses their job?
So simple to just contact them about this. Get what you really wanted and possibly just give back what you don't really want anyway.

Gosh, very interesting discussion. I never even gave it a second thought as being a moral dilemma. I was 95% sure the company knew what they were doing with my order, and that they were 100% ok with THEIR decision. My only original question was if I was getting a lesser value, strictly from a business view because I was thinking of eventually reselling them. I never had any moral question about what I was doing. But after reading some of the posts I have decided to call the company and make them aware of their mistake. It can't hurt. Thanks to everybody for all the points of view, it made a difference. Will call them right now and report back.

edit: OK, just got off the phone with Provident Metals. I explained the situation, and he did some checking and said that 90% of the quarters that they are shipping are proof quarters. He tried to tell me I was getting a better value (probably don't get many calls from people with errors in their favor,) but I explained to him that I actually wanted the BU quarters and not the proofs, and that I had 2 more orders in the system with BU rolls ordered. So he put me on hold for quite a while and said that he did put a request in to the vault that my next 2 orders have no proof quarters. He further explained that they way they see it, proof falls under the category of unc.

I highly doubt they did that on purpose. But with that said, if they ask you to return it they should pay shipping both for the return and the sending of the correct item which will likely make the difference so negligible that THEY will choose to allow you to keep what you received if that is acceptable to you. I am interested to see how they handle the situation. Always nice to learn about a companies customer service department, only really matters how good they are when things are wrong and they are tasked with correcting it.

OK, he got a product worth $30 more than he ordered. It would be good for him to contact the dealer and let him know what happened, But if I was the dealer and I was looking at having to pay the shipping and insurance to have them returned and then to send the replacement roll, I would be losing most of that $30 anyway. So I would tell him if he is happy to just keep the proof roll.

I agree 100% Conder101. I would imagine that most, if not all, sellers would do just that. But as the seller I would like to be aware of the error so I could look into how it happened and what could be done to prevent it in the future.

Thanks for the update edweather. I am not surprised that they were ok with you keeping them but I find it extremely odd that they treat them the same. I order from Provident occasionally and never really noticed but they don't seem to have proof rolls listed for sale so they must. You learn something new everyday. I wonder if it is because they are primarily a bullion seller and not a coin company? I know APMEX sells them at different prices.

True.

Not a bad price if you want proof rolls, and I think they are one of the free shipping items too, if I'm not mistaken.

OK, well, it's official. If you want a proof roll of silver quarters at an unc roll price....order to your hearts content from Provident. I just got my latest order, and despite my best efforts, the recent roll is proof also. On the packing slip it states in 2 different places that customer would like BU and not proof.

Also just got my order from APMEX. They DID send uncs as ordered. Can't wait to go search the uncs.
