A rundown of a few things that have arrived and are deserving of a photo: 1. Snake: It does have a beard (you can see that in the lit images) 2. PAX AVGGG 3. PAX AVG (But silver) The surface has some low quality silver on it over a core of really murky billon. I'm guessing this was among the last of the silver coins struck in Carausius' name. The previous owner put a small test cut into the edge to check. It does have much better style than the usual very early RSR mint denarii...perhaps it was made for a special occasion later in the reign. Also, note the green sploches on the second photograph - this is the toned billon. 4. Marius (sort of) Bust of marius on a coin of victorinus. Green encrustation is rock hard. Not further cleaning required. Ive got a whole load of interesting coins now. Soon I hope to pop up to the British Museum to get a couple identified or get some expert opinions on them (especially my Castulo coin ith IVL on it and that Zenonis).

When I saw your snake coin, I remembered my Caracalla with serpent... Now I feel sad because I sold it... :(
Interesting coins btw :)

Uchi, these are all from ebay. Obviously, the PAX AVGGG and the Marius werent advertised as such or I wouldnt have been able to afford them, but the silver carausius was advertised...Its a wonder it didnt get over my budget. Dollarman, PM me if you want to get started - I could find you something nice for a good price (ive got a whole load of stuff sitting in the out pile which doesn't really fit into my collection or is surplus, or I can point you to the right auction).

That Carausius is amazing! Ben what city was that Provincial minted in? The snake is very similar in style to Markianopolis, but I'm not reading the legend as that (unless it's a legend I haven't seen yet for that city). If it isn't Markianopolis it has to be another city in close proximity within Moesia.

Im thinking the snake says MAR... so Id guess Marcianopolis, though the obverse (whats left of it) doesn't match and neither do the die breaks. Probably issued under the legate Quintillianus. It looks like Caracalla or Elagabalus, but its very tricky trying to fit it into an ID.
