I didn't mean to win this lot. Didn't actually want it that bad I bid too high mistaking it for the lot I really wanted. (I really need to stop bidding on my phone) But now it is mine and the lot I actually wanted got sniped with 2 seconds left. Oh well time to make the best of it. I paid 4 bucks a coin so it isn't the end of the world. It isn't half bad. I mean it looks like there is an Augustus, Marcus, Commodus, Trajan (albeit cleaned poorly) and maybe a Claudius. Same seller has another lot up right now that I think has a left facing Antoninus Pius but I am not going to take the risk right now since I don't think I would make my money on the lot.

Okay ...... This is my read. I see an Augustus As (moneyer's issue) at the top left Next looks to me like a larger sized LRB possibly Gratian ? Top right appears to be a smaller (20mm) sized Greek AE ? possibly republic 2nd down left looks to be either a Spanish As of Augustus or another moneyers As Now comes Claudius ..... I think it is an As but I can tell the photo is wide angle thus the foreground is distorted (ie big) but Claudius is lying next to what almost certainly is an As of Trajan ...... But its bigger. It seems hard to believe that it could be a left facing sestertius of Claudius. More probably a larger sized As. Across the bottom I see a sestertius of Commodus ..... but it seems to have BD (not too bad though) The broken sestertius is almost certainly Julia Mamaea. Next a follis of Maximianus and a very green patinated sestertius of Marcus.
You have nothing to be ashamed of on this one !

FR- That's what I was thinking for the lot in terms of names. For the Claudius I am hoping when it arrives there will be a nice well defined countermark on the reverse saying it is a light Sestertius. The second Augustus I am almost certain it is a Spanish colonial it has the 'pie' shape that usually defines those coins.
The lot I was after had a really nice Republican bronze. I think this seller may go on the favourites for the future. I still am tempted to spend more money to get that left facing APius though. It is at 47 min left current bid is 1 euro per coin...

If it is a 'left' facing sestertius of Claudius it is a restitution issue. Either Titus or Domitian. You can't possibly get that lucky !

I have this feeling that it is going to turn out to be a Minerva reverse.

The relative sizes in photo are distorted by the wide angle lens. The only thing you can gauge the Claudius by is the Trajan it sits next to. It does appear to be significantly larger than either of the two beside it. It even seems bigger than the Marcus which we are reasonably sure is a sestertius........ I find it hard to believe it could be a Claudius restitution issue simply because I bought one a few days back ..... then some one else I know bought one ..... and now another one ? One more possibility exists 'amigo' It may actually be that very rare bird ....... NERO CLAVDIVS DRVSVS Which of course we all know are left facing

Then again ...... after straining my old eye balls I am certain I can read AESARAV above the portrait. I believe you are right. But for an As it seems to be large sized. It may clean up quite nicely

I look forward to finding out. Hopefully that seller doesn't take too long to ship.
