I have a tiny greek collection, but I think this looks fake. Is it from ebay from a Greek seller? It is illegal to sell ancient coins from Greece, if you look at the small print, you will see that they are usually replicas.

Here is a picture of Zeus with a thunderbolt on the reverse, not the same as your coin, but I hope you can see the difference

Thanks Pish, you are correct, it is from a Greek seller on ebay.

I will avoid this.
Why is it illegal for them to sell ancient coins? is it to keep the history inside Greece?

Thanks

What is it's weight and size?

I'm sure if you Google for similar examples or look on VCoins, you will see the prices given for Genuine examples.

Oh yes, it looks like a cast copy.

A peddler might be able to sell it to some disorientated tourist clambering down from the Acropolis of Athens for 10 Euros.

They are trying to preserve their ancient artifacts. More countries are doing this. There is a thread about the latest agreement between the US and Bulgaria on the forum.

If you see a greek coin you fancy, I strongly recommend becoming familiar with the FAKE thread at the top of the board, and before you spend any of your hard earned cash, post a pic here and you will get advice as to whether it is real or not. I am only just learning, I can pick out some fakes but not all of them. I check in before I bid/buy.

I'd avoid it as well.
