1854-o isn't exactly rare, but gets to be in higher grades. This one has a very nice look to it in hand (the photo makes it look green, it's really a nice blue color though).

This one looks VF+ and close to XF but not quite.

EF40 I think New Orleans was always weak in striking Liberty Seated coinage, no? I think this creeps over to EF taking that into consideration IMO...there are areas that are better than VF on this coin especially the obverse

35/40 depending on how the toning looks in person. Quote:I think New Orleans was always weak in striking Liberty Seated coinage, no? Didnt they have weak strikes on basically everything till close to the end? I believe 0 Morgans are also well known for that

New Orleans is definitely known for weak strikes and the Half Dime series was no exception. The last raw New Orleans Half Dime I sent in I think was undergraded because the strike wasn't taken into consideration, but I buy coins raw that I really like, this one is no exception, I'll be sending it in once I put together enough for a submission and we'll see what the experts say. I think this coins has a shot at 40, is definitely VF30+ but if what happens to me happens again this coin will get slabbed VF20/25.

I think it makes XF40. Barely, but it's there.

PCGS saw fit to detail this coin. One of two disappointments with that submission. They did go with XF though, but claimed there was environmental damage...i guess the color spooked them. I'm keeping this one though, despite that grade.

Too bad, beautiful coin. I wouldnt have thought ENV. Damage. Clean 35/40 in my opinion.
