I do free shipping but with eBay/paypal and the cost of packing etc if I buy a coin for $1 I would have to sell it for about $4.50 to break even.

I really don't want to get into selling lots and I like the idea of one coin per auction so if I could find a way of doing 2 for 1 or something similar I would.

Anyone know how to do it or have any suggestions?

Good question and great idea to boost sales.
With free shipping it is hard to give a quantity discount.
My only possible solution,
You can manually mark every second item paid and invoice the remainder.

I was thinking about something like this, but I think ebay will still charge final value fees etc, even though it was free. I was wondering if I manually combine invoices and change the price if the final value fees are based on the sold price or the invoice price.

This is a very interesting question. I'd love to hear the solution. One way I can think of is the list the second coin as a bonus in the description. Title could have & bonus. Or you could describe bonus coin in the condition section, appearing at top of listing.
