Well Putt-Putt still has those copper mine machines that uses pennies in them to give tickets and takes tokens. So you could just say you are picking up some to fill that thing with and places like those where arcades still exist and haven't been killed off by the Playbox you 360, or whatever home video game console it is out there now.

If you walk in with cash, like $100 and ask if you can get some change. Say you need rolls, ...of nickels. Thats 50 rolls, a whole box.
That's usually the end of the conversation. "anything else" usually follows.

I'm gonna try and hit the same bank I got my box from last week. They dind't bat an eye when I asked for a box. I just don't know how often they get new boxes in or how many they keep on hand. Guess I will find out.

duncan, Say, "I volunteer with the xyz group and they like my idea of teaching the very young kids to learn how to use numbers. 5 pennies = 1 nickel 5 pennies and 1 nickel = one dime." Get the idea?

I normally get coins from the credit union I work at, but then I also dump there. Since they let me withdrawal from the vault and walk a box+ out to my car as long as I swap for cash or withdrawal from my account. I'm interested in what you're saying in case I want to go to other banks.

I know I can't search halves around my towns. This one guy searches dimes/halves from 2-3 banks. Funny thing is that the tellers tell me we sell our halves to the bank he picks up from...jokes on him. Its a pain being his dump bank so we don't tell him that he's dumping coins here, then they get sold to the other bank which he proceeds to pick up at the bank. No wonder he never finds silver.

My trick is make a teller friend at a bank you use. Make small talk, learn them by name. After a couple weeks ask them if they can ever order a box of coin. I tell me and my son like looking through for older coins (which is true) and they are happy to help. I try to figure out who is in charge, and make friends with them. I also mention if they need a referral credit for a new account to boosr their numbers, let me know. Hope this helps!

@duncan: I never dump at the same place I buy coins from. They definitely don't like that. Credit unions may be different.

BernieZ: He buys them from a different bank, dumps them with us. But he doesn't know that when we get rid of the boxes we sell them to the other bank. He doesn't mark up the rolls either I don't think so he's just going through over, and over with probably very little variation.
