Ok, so you found a nice little keeper while CRH-ing a penny box. You put it on ebay and it sells for $5. Pretty good return on investment. So, how do you ship it? I would say a 2x2 goes without saying. But do you mail it in a regular old envelope for the price of a stamp? Padded envelope? Or something else? Just curious. Is there an etiquette with this kind of thing? Obviously, I haven't bought one myself.

I would ship it in a PVC flip.
Normally as a material, I hate PVC, but for shipping purposes and temporary storage, they are quite OK. The Mylar on cardboard flips is way too thin for shipping purposes.

Perhaps two thin pieces of cardboard either side of the PVC flip would help, and then place in an ordinary envelope are appropriate enough for and item with a value of $5.

For a $5 coins, regular un-padded envelope in a 2x2 would be the most I'd be willing to do. Unless the buyer specifically asked for a special envelope or First Class. Not really worth it to pay more than $1 shipping on a $5 coin.

That's the sort of thing I put in a 2x2, then sandwich it between two thin pieces of cardboard, and finally mail it in an envelope.
It'll weigh in at 2 ozs.
Since it will fall into the RIGID category mark the envelope NON-MACHINABLE which will cost a bit more.

what did you charge for shipping? if you charged a buck, then flip, stamp and envelope..if you charged more , then maybe spring for a bubble mailer, with a flip.

Or you could package it like the ones I received today... Three indian heads taped to a baseball card with scotch tape. I was not happy to say the least.

How do you handle the tracking if you just put a regular stamp on it? Or do you not offer tracking for shipment of that value?

what I do is plastic wrap, taped, sandwiched in thin cardboard then two sheets of paper regular envelope, put on scale buy suggested postage, then I hope they receive it, after ebay charges for selling and ebay shipping charges cost of stamp with no tracking envelope tape and so on. so the five dollar bid sounded good after charges where do you stand......

oh yea by the way nice find congrats
