1999-D Dime Struck Through Grease Or Clad Error?

fragsmax New Member United States 42 Posts	Posted 03/05/2014 10:32 pm When I first saw this coin I thought that it had been dipped in acid or something. Closer inspection, however leads me to believe that it may have been Struck Through Grease. It is, definitely, an error coin. Some of the lettering on the Obverse is partially filled. The Reverse is also affected, although not to quite the extent that the Obverse is. The images just do not convey what is seen by the naked eye. They make it look like it has been soaking in acid but I am confident that this is something else. Could this be a pre-strike Planchette Error or is it a Struck Through Grease error? Does anyone have experience with one like this? Report this Post to the Staff

fragsmax New Member United States 42 Posts	Posted 03/06/2014 01:13 am I've just scanned it in at 1200 res and can see some sort of brush marks on the coin. It is beyond me why someone would go to that much trouble but it would appear that it may have been held to a polish wheel. Thank you all for your time and I am sorry to have wasted it.
