This is not circulation coin, and do not suppose to be "rare".
As commems wrote about mintage of Silver Dollars - hundreds thousands, and people were happy to own one.
Probably the amount of collectors will decrease, cause they use to subsidize their collections by elementary speculation on the coins, and playing on the lack of knowledge of buyers... Its a two edged sword. A higher mintage will make people who could not get them because they were all bought by flippers happy. But a higher mintage will devalue the coin in the long run. I doubt the sellers are preying on the ignorance of buyers. Most people are not as dumb as you think. It is a more a function of supply and demand. Because the demand far outstripped the supply, a seller can demand high prices. Edited by MoneyPenney

MoneyPenney, you correct - in general it just me - every time I tell to myself that it is just other side of the collecting, but it comes to me again  the demand for extremely high prices is possible, when the shortage of supply occurs. Real shortage or artificial one. |

However, in the case of many recent RCM NCLT coins, the lack of supply was artificial and the result of a fairly large volume of speculative purchases with the intent of quick resale vs. purchases by collectors. This has created short-term spikes in prices in the months following the release of certain coins, but for most it has not been long lasting - supply and demand soon find their equilibrium point for most RCM releases. You didn't miss anything. It was a picture of a frog on a lily pad and a pink flower. The ad says 'actual design to be released early April' Actually, if you search ebay on coins & paper money for completed listing and 'glass frog', you can still see the summary of the listing. |

You mean like the commissioned Bald Eagle Coins last year and the Bison coins this year. Those coins sold out so quickly that even some MC members could not get them. Last week, the 2nd Bison coin was "awaiting stock" as soon as it was openned to MC members. As it turned out, none of these coins are doing that well on ebay. Edited by MoneyPenney

Actually I am using those two examples to support your argument that the shortage of supply was artificial. There was no shortage because they were bought by one company. |

What do you mean the eagle series is not doing so well just because you cannot get 100% ROI for them. I have sold quite a few of them in different places and the best sales have been for the first one in the series and it sells for $150 or better. The new series will be the same just have to give it time.

The completed auctions for a set of 4 coins in the last month are $373, $378, $437, $449. After ebay fees, the return is negative since we are looking at less than $400 a set or less than $100 a coin. For the $373 set, we are looking at $324 or $81 per coin. |

Most people don't buy the whole set at the same time only individual coins. And that's what happens when you have auctions you take a chance on the final price always list buy it now and you control the price those people that sold low are just in to much of a hurry to sell that's why. Everybody had bad things to say about the first coin(chicken head)but suprise that seems to be the best selling one of the group.

Canada Murano Glass Frog has a total mintage of 12,500 and will be on sale Tuesday April 01 from what I have read
