Truly having fun going through my Mexican Revolutionary coins with the Amaya books. Anyway came across this variety. It is a 1915 Guerrero Campo Morado copper 50C.
The Amaya number is A-GO 71b, Obverse IX, reverse C. It is unlisted in GB, Gaytan, Garza, Wood, etc. The R in Republica is struck over the star.
Amaya does not have a price for this coin. No price means that the price is not known, or it is rare, or both. Does anyone know if this is a rare coin?
The R over star is visible without magnification and is symmetric. I kind of goofed up on the picture.
Carlos Amaya was at the Mo convention Friday afternoon and Saturday morning and I managed to purchase the last (?) of the 10 pre-publication copies in English.
Once I get home, I'm looking forward to spending some time going over them.
Well, if it is obverse 9, it is a rather recent discovery, as both the first and second edition of Amaya only count up to 8 different obverse dies.
My question would be how the error "R over star" would be possible. Rarity is relative, as aa new discovery, more examples could turn uo once everybody starts looking for them...
