My advice: QUIT SHOWING OFF YOUR COLLECTION!

It is sad but I have to agree with this. You never know who your friends will tell about your collection. I have told a few relatives and co-workers that I collect but I never say what I have or what I spend.

One of the reasons that I enjoy this forum so much is that I can discuss numismatics without as many security concerns.

But Ivan some of them are ;)
I really agree with Joe. When I first started collecting I joined this forum and since I've looked around and this is pretty much the beat coin forum around. I mean only my best friends really know about what my collection really is and they are very surprised that I've spent thousands of $$'s on coins.

No. You may think it's a realistic attitude, but we know better. Haven't you noticed we have a whole subforum dedicated to numismatic crime? You'll find murders for robbery rather common in there....

DON'T SHOW OFF YOUR COLLECTION!

@SsuperDdave

for the last time, my collection is safe and nothing will happen please stop going off topic and saying that something will go horrible. I am just trying to figure out an explanation for a common question.

I will no longer respond to anyone who mentions this.

Chillax. People are just worried. I mean Numismatic Crime is more common than you think. We're just saying, you may not want to show off your collection at work as "worth 10K" just to be jumped in the parking lot by the janitor who needs the money for drugs and gambling.

@SsuperDdave

Sorry for the aggression but it is just getting a little frustrating because I am just asking for an explanation to a question that has became upon me several times and I am very careful about my collection I would never to anything to risk it. It is just that its been multiple people who have commented about that.

For anybody else who would like to comment, please do not mention my collection being stolen. I would just like to know what you guys would say in this situation.

People here aren't trying to bust your chops over this. Just be smart about things. If you had large sums of cash in your house it's not something you would show off. This is the same thing. While your friends might be trustworthy you don't want the reputation of being someone that has a huge amount of cash laying around the house. Just because you THINK you know someone, doesn't mean you do. Again this is CCF people are here to help you, people are giving you good advice to your question whether you want to hear it or not. You ask a question, you got an opinion whether you like it or not.

You obviously don't care; that's fine and I won't hassle you about it again. However, a lot of people are reading this thread who aren't posting, some of them new collectors, and I don't want any of them believing this is a smart idea.

I'm not going to dignify that with a response. Nobody in their right mind would post an honest answer in that thread.

You know what? The heck with this. I'm not allowing this idea - that it's somehow safe to show off a coin collection - to go on.
