Looking for opinions on this coin. It has some light toning I find attractive.

I first thought the pic was out of focus, nice doubling.

I'd give it MS62RB

Pretty coin! Coin roll find? Or did you buy it attributed as the DDO #1?

All I can offer is low MS since these are not my forte - that is a very dramatic double. I really like the toning on it. Very nice pickup!

Toning if it is attractive will aid in a more positive grade.
I think the grades here are too low for this coin. Remember - this coin is SUPER blown up for examination, and it will amplify any negatives.

Typically all mint state coins start with an MS-70 grade and then things are deducted. To me, with the coin size as is, I can see five to maybe six things that are distracting, so this coin - if the lighting isn't hiding anything - a strong MS63, but probably an MS64, due to the nice even toning.

I'm not much of a LMC grader--but I think MS63 at least.

I'm gonna say AU-64 - I just can't tell if the highest of the high points (Tip of cheek and the two areas of the lapel) are rubbed a bit. I will say ding dang though because this is one truly awesome coin! The fields are in great shape and I LOVE the toning too. Please, do tell on how you acquired this bad boy!

Also, these are stellar pictures!

Thanks for the replies. This coin was part of my dad's collection and he
gave it to me when I started getting into varieties. My focus has changed
but this is still a favorite coin.

And thanks for the compliment on the pic. I have been working at it and
reading alot. The only thing I still need is a quality copy stand.
Rest in Peace

I would seriously consider having this graded by one of the TPGs to protect and better preserve it. I agree with 63/64 and leaning more towards 64.

I think think I have been given very sound advise as far as sending it out to be graded.
The coins I collect now are better off in NGC holders. When I accumulate enough U.S. coins
I will send this to PCGS. Perhaps I'll go through my cent Dansco for some candidates. I will
surely share the results when I do.

WOW! Gorgeous example of that year's double die. I'd take that in a heartbeat (so long as you weren't looking!)

I'd go MS 64BN on that bad boy. Enjoy!
