Thanks NuMoosematist, I'm pleased how it turned out. I now have 12 slots for my $100's....as long as RCM continue them I'm all set for a few more years. |

sherwooddavid I stole you idea with the foam for a case using the 1/10th oz gold coins. The wooden case is really really nice.   |

Is the venetian glass series finished now at 5 coins ?

I got the case at APMEX when I ordered the 12 coin case. Paid 6 bucks or something. I bought 3. I doubt the glass series is only going to be 5. Plus I don't have the first one. Just thought it was nice to display them like this for now. :) |

I've been vaguely thinking I need a nice way to display the Venetian glass coins with those extra thick capsules as well as some of the other sets. Thanks for the inspiration!

@Solidifer,you got me thinking that it might be a good idea to eventually use one of the O Canada cases to display my 5 Venetian glass coins.
I might give it a try to see what it looks like. I'm a little concerned the O Canada box is a little big for 5 coins ?
If more coins are released I can cut another piece of foam (foam is really cheap at the craft store)

This is the best affordable (since could be found for sale without the coins) RCM wooden box for multiple coins. I will utilize 3-4 such boxes, but only for 38mm coins that I prefer to group. Congrats, guys for utilizing and making some nice work on them. Solidifier's picture reminded me, that I have exactly 5 Crystal Raindrop Maple Leaf coins (2008-2012) in the same capsules, like Venetian glass coins, so I have the questions: How tight this material holds the coin? (this important for these type of the coins) Are you sure, that this material will not destroy the coin with the time (by releasing some chemical elements in the small environment, as closed box, with the coins? Any other creative ideas, how to modify the coin slot? |

I was also thinking about the chemicals and what not. This is short term, I'm working on something else :)

Hello Silveroid,
The foam I used is about 1/4 inch and fairly firm so if you cut the circle to the correct diameter the capsules seems quite snug and I can't see it moving around too much.
As for the foam doing damage to the coin over time,I'm not really sure. The foam is not actually touching the coin ,only the capsule so I can't see any problems arising but who knows...I'm a retired electrician not a chemist !! LOL
It's something that should be checked out though and I appreciate you asking the question.
Maybe someone here on the forum would know if there would be any chemical interaction between the foam and plastic capsule that would cause damage to the coins over time.

The first square 2006 $3 gold plated Beaver coin was encapsulated along with a piece of foam INSIDE the capsule. This caused a tarnish affect on the gold plating. Better, (but not a must) to leave in original capsule. I even enjoy to "free" the NCLT coins by breaking stupid (IMO) slabs with all these "MS-69","Early Release", "MS-70", "Deep Cameo" and to put in original RCM, or air-tite capsules. By the way, in the 2011 RCM resolved the issue with square coins, minting beautiful series (wish it will be just silver, no gold plating), by removing the foam.
