Australian 1981 Error 20c Coin. [unfortunately Not]

darge Valued Member Australia 236 Posts	Posted 04/02/2014 11:39 pm I should have said the ripple crosses over the paw - not through it. Anyway this topic is dead so it can die. Just thought I would show how misleading things can be. In the hand the coin appears like the first photo, it is only the sunlight that shows it up. Thanks for letting me get this off my chest. jerry Valued Member Canada 109 Posts	Posted 06/10/2014 10:35 am Respective of the 1981 "3 1/2 claw" variety I wish to clarify a number of mis-interpretations. Firstly, This coin was discovered by its obverse characteristic-not the 3 1/2 claw reverse. It was called the "Flatfield" variety back in 1996 when I discovered it and reported it to the Australian Coin Review. I find it funny that the major distinguishing characteristics on the obverse are being ignored and the very minor reverse characteristics are the ones being focused on. The major characteristics are the "Flatfield" on the obverse and the "Scalloping" on the base of the lettering on the obverse-that's all you need. The "Flatfield" is obvious WITHOUT a magnifier !
