Quote:Grading and Counterfeit DetectionThe Official Grading and Counterfeit Detection, PCGS, 2nd edition by Dannreuther 2004 The Official ANA Grading Standards for US coins, 6th edition by Bressett 2005 A Guide to Grading of US coins by Brown and Dunn 1964 How to Grade US coins by Halperin Numismatic Forgery by Larson Counterfeit Mis-struck & Unofficial U.S. Coins by Taxay 1976 Hello, My questions may be better suited for another thread although their origins stem out from information similar to the above verbiage found within these publications. The mods can decide to move this thought afterwards should it be deemed more appropriate... I recently noticed after having received back a non-graded counterfeit 1928 Hawaiian 50C from PCGS that they declined to send the specific characteristics utilized determine that this coin was a fake. They based their actions upon the fact that the dissemination of this type of information would tip off the counterfeiters to produce even more effective non-detectable forgeries etc Anyhow, would professional graders at NGC and PCGS exclusively use these above books to detect counterfeits or do other more secretive, proprietary and more up-to-date tomes exist especially for them? Thanks, mdpmedia

Hey
Also, would it be possible for CCF to provide URLs for the users to read the actual contents of selected publications mentioned in this thread?
I do not know if any type of restrictions currently exists to prevent this from happening but it sure would be a tremendously convenient and useful source of referencing accessible without having to leave one's home or place of employment.
Please let us all know what is and is not possible using the expertise of CCF.
Thanks, mdpmedia

Thanks for posting that, it was one I didn't have on the master list, I keep saved as a Word document. It's at 34 pages and likely to keep growing.
I have a separate list for US currency but haven't done much with it in quite a few months.
Let me know if you'd like either list and I'll be happy to send them.
