There is a sticky at the top which is a good resource and you can also post your coins here for identificatio.

Books are great as a reference, but I've found it's usually much quicker to do most of the identification on Wildwinds (since you can crtl-f and find words) and then bust out the reference books when you've got it narrowed down if necessary.

The online resources are great, but when you have no experience, they don't really help. Keep an eye out on ebay for old books, and stick around here you will learn loads.

Wildwinds is ok, but very dated. Get yourself ERIC, free download from the sticky that PP mentioned. I also like the Roman coins and their values, D.Sear. but not cheap.

Like I said, wildwinds is good for narrowing it down, not always good for everything. I'll look into ERIC also, I'm always on the lookout for resources.

ERIC I is a free download and a very good resource. ERIC II is the most updated reference on Roman and Byzantine coins at the moment. Ras is working on ERIC III which once that is published will be the most updated reference for Roman Coins.
