Flat shelf like, devices reduced in size = Machine Doubling. If it were hub doubled you would see the devices enlarged from the hubbing process:

I found a twin the other day. Note the flat shelf Coop pointed out.

PS - folks try to sell these as RPMs on ebay quite regularly. They either see the shelf as a supposed second mint mark or they know its MD but hope the buyer doesn't.
